About a year ago around this time, I wrote my very first blog post! Ironically, it was about the demise of the skinny jean. Some of you hated me for it! Now, don´t be mistaken, I still love and wear my skinny jeans all the time! You should totally continue to wear them and keep them in your closet because they will forever be a staple! They are by no means out of style. However, this past year the straight jean and the slim jean made a huge comeback and I was here for it. Well, its time for yet another denim comeback, the return of the 90´s flare jean. And yes, I´m here for this trend too.
Think back to the day when skinny jeans arrived on the scene. Most of us women were not impressed. We figured the skinny jean was made for the¨skinny¨girl. Soon after, we realized that every woman could rock the skinny jean, we bought every single color and style available. Since then, most of us have never looked back to any other style of denim. Well, now´s your chance. With the arrival of the mom jean, the boyfriend jean, the straight jean (the list goes on and on...) the choices are endless. For those of you that don´t consider yourselves a skinny girl, I am happy to say that flare jeans are very flattering for all. They actually help to balance out the hips and thighs and give appearance of a thinner and even taller frame. Flare jeans do not have to bell bottoms! They can fall in the category of boot cut. But, how do we keep ourselves looking contemporary and age appropriate with the return of the flare? The key to making them look like they belong in 2022 is to make sure they it fit properly. Consider a high-waisted, more tailored pair that aren´t extra long or extra wide at the bottom. Adding a heel will also give you that classy style you are going for.
Now let´s talk about how to style these jeans. My favorite look is a basic fitted top, like a turtleneck or a bodysuit, tucked in with a belt to elevate the outfit. A feminine blouse is another easy way to create stylish look. A girly blouse can dress up any pair of flare jeans and create a perfect date night look. These jeans do lend themselves to tops with tighter sleeves, however, an oversized sweater is not out of the question. A long cardigan or coat can definitely work too. Layer a fitted cami underneath and tuck in. This will keep the outfit from looking too bulky. Add a blazer or fitted jacket over a bodysuit and you can have a more refined, possibly even a professional look!
Remember, when styling the flare jean, you won´t be able to see as much of your shoe as you do with a skinny jean. I love a flare jean with a slightly pointy ankle bootie but, you can definitely do a round toe boot as well. In spring and summer, a wedge or even a stiletto heel will look killer. Don´t be afraid to throw on a pair a fashion sneakers with your flare jeans. Yes, you can even add a sweatshirt for a relaxed look.
I´m not telling you to ditch your skinny jeans. I´m not saying your straight or slim jeans are a thing of the past either. All I am saying is, its time to give this trend a try! You can easily scoop up an affordable pair and add a little something different to your denim collection! There is always room for more jeans!
