Who does Generation Z think they are anyway ??

If you don’t have a preteen or a too cool teenager in your house you may not have a clue about viral videos that are all over Tik Tok. My daughter has actually banned me from posting on my Tik Tok account. I had to make one without her permission. Anyway… as seen on the ever popular social media platform, Generation Z deemed skinny jeans dead? GASP!? In fact, the video showed them being burned! Who does Gen Z think they are anyway?!?

I for one, will not be obliged to get rid of half my wardrobe...nor should you! But, as you know, I am one who loves a new trend and will never argue expanding my wardrobe by adding more denim. Although I will absolutely wear my skinnies when I'm not in my joggers, I welcome the change. In fact, I am sure I already have a few pairs of distressed, baggy jeans in my closet from way back that may indeed make the cut, no pun intended. If looking at all the options of different jean types strains your brain like it did me, let me help educate you!

Let’s talk about some fresh new alternatives:

1. The Boyfriend: My personal favorite. This jean refers to just that, “the boyfriend”. It offers a more relaxed, slouchy, boxy fit. In my opinion, a more comfortable fit. However, these can be unflattering for some body types so choose wisely. Choose a slim-cut version or one that is a bit slimmer at least on the ankles. Make sure the jeans actually fit at the waste, possibly size down, depending on the cut and the brand. These are definitely a casual, cool choice that can be rocked by any body type. Sneakers, heels, sandals, they all easily compliment the boyfriend jean.

2. The Girlfriend Jean: A close second for me. The "girlfriend" is a similar fit to its boyfriend predecessor. It is a bit less slouchy and baggy. The boyfriend will also have a wider leg opening. Consider them the classier, slimmer version of the boyfriend. These are a perfect alternative to the skinny. Great for various body types.

3. The Straight Leg Jean: This style is pretty simple, they are straight! The leg is not as wide as the boyfriend, not as slim as the skinny, just plain straight. This jean literally has the same dimension from the thigh to the ankle. This style is not for those who tend to have a wider hip, they may feel snug. They may, depending on the brand, have a more rough, rigid feel to the denim. These jeans are simply a classic. They are back and if your body type can handle them, they are a good option.

4. The Slim Fit: The perfect middle child between the skinny and the straight. These jeans can be as form fitting as the skinny but, will have a slightly wider leg opening. You want to make sure these jeans fit well around the hit. The shouldn't be too baggy around the knee or thigh. This jean can look good on just about any body type and can go with just about any type of shoe. These are a great option for classic look!

5. The Mom Jean: I’m still figuring out if I am offended by the negative connotation associated with this title. The "mom jean" is known for its high waist, relaxed leg and comfortable fit. Ironically, this fit doesn’t look exactly flattering on “real moms”. The wide cut hip and high waist make them can make them slightly uncomfortable to wear. In some cases, they can also highlight all the unflattering parts that some of us have developed as soon as we became moms! However, I am one to try new things and still like youthful looks so, I chose some that don't quite fit the classic "mom jean" criteria. These will give you a "cool mom" look!

**New Trend Alert**

Denim Joggers: This trend should not surprise you considering the last year we’ve all had! I tend to believe that this is an attempt to get people out of their loungewear and back into denim. I haven’t yet purchased a pair but, I plan to. I’m a fan. Depending on color and style, I say give it a try. Let’s face it, what could possibly go wrong? Joggers + Denim = Perfection
